Privacy Policy
1. About this policy
Go Short Stay Limited (Go Shortstay, we, us, our) respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect your personal information, and your rights, under the Privacy Act 2020. It applies to our website at www.goshortstay.co.nz, our booking site at book.goshortstay.co.nz, to bookings and stays, and to the owners and suppliers we deal with.

3. Information we collect
Depending on how you deal with us, we may collect:
• identity and contact details, such as your name, email, phone number and postal address;
• booking details, such as dates, the Property, the number of guests, guest names where needed, and any special requests;
• payment information, which is processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers;
• identity verification information, where a Property or platform requires it;
• communications between us, such as emails, messages and call notes;
• information about how you use our website (see cookies below); and
• for property owners and suppliers, the details we need to provide our services and meet our legal and tax obligations.
You do not have to give us the information we ask for, but if you do not, we may not be able to take your booking or provide our services.
4. How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you use our website, make a booking, or contact us. We also receive information from booking platforms such as Airbnb, Booking.com and VRBO when you book through them, and from our channel manager and payment provider. Where the law allows, we may collect information from other sources, for example to verify identity or prevent fraud.
5. Why we collect and use it
We use your information to: take and manage your booking; arrange and support your stay; take payment and manage security deposits; communicate with you; keep our Properties and guests safe; meet our legal, tax and record-keeping obligations; deal with complaints and disputes; improve our website and services; and, where you have not opted out, send you information about our accommodation and offers.
6. Who we share it with
We share your information only as needed, with:
• the owner of the Property, where relevant;
• our staff and contractors who help run the Property and your stay, such as cleaners and maintenance people;
• our channel manager, the booking platforms, and our payment provider;
• our professional advisers, such as accountants and lawyers; and
• government agencies where we are required by law, such as Inland Revenue.
We do not sell your personal information.
7. Sending information overseas
Some of the providers we use are based outside New Zealand or store information overseas, including our channel manager and payment provider (for example in the United States) and the international booking platforms. When we disclose personal information to a provider overseas, we take reasonable steps to make sure your information is protected by safeguards comparable to those under the Privacy Act 2020, as required by information privacy principle 12, for example through our contracts with those providers. Where the Act requires your authorisation for a particular disclosure, we will seek it.
8. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar tools to help it work, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. Some of these tools are provided by third parties, including analytics providers, which may process information overseas. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you turn them off.
9. Marketing and your choices
We only send you marketing messages where you have agreed, or where the law allows, and every message includes an easy way to unsubscribe, in line with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. You can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link or by contacting our Privacy Officer.
10. Keeping your information safe
We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access, use or disclosure. This includes access controls and using reputable providers. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
11. How long we keep it
We keep your information only as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or to meet our legal obligations. For example, we keep records that relate to payments and tax for at least seven years, as the law requires. When we no longer need information, we securely delete or de-identify it.
12. Accessing and correcting your information
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is wrong. Contact our Privacy Officer. We will respond as soon as we can, and within the time the Privacy Act 2020 allows. There is usually no charge, and if a charge does apply we will tell you first.
13. Privacy breaches
If a privacy breach happens that has caused, or is likely to cause, serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected, as required by the Privacy Act 2020, and we will take steps to reduce the harm.
14. Complaints
If you are concerned about how we have handled your information, please tell our Privacy Officer first, so we can try to put it right. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (www.privacy.org.nz, 0800 803 909).
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on our website, with the date it was last updated.
